Upon completion of his surgery fellowship, he returned to the New Orleans area and took a position with the Tulane Dermatology of Dermatology.

Joseph Shrum, M.D.

Alan T. Lewis, M.D.

He held the position of Associate Professor of Dermatology and Director of the Dermatologic Surgery section with Tulane Dermatology up until 2011.  During this time, Dr. Lewis was involved in teaching the residents of Tulane Dermatology in Mohs Micrographic Surgery, post-surgical reconstruction, cutaneous oncology and a myriad of cosmetic surgical procedures.  He was also the director of the Mohs Surgery section at the Tulane Cancer Center.  While with Tulane, Dr. Lewis worked at Tulane Dermatology Affiliates in Gulfport.  It was here that Dr. Lewis started the first Mohs surgery center on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

In 2011, Dr. Lewis left Tulane to pursue a career in private practice, as this gave him greater freedom to devote to patient care.  Dr. Lewis is still involved in resident education at Tulane and still holds the title Clinical Associate Professor there.  It was then that Tulane Dermatology Affiliates changed its name to Modern Dermatology & Aesthetics, as it's two remaining charter members were no longer full time employees of Tulane Health Science Center.

Dr. Lewis holds memberships in the American Academy of Dermatology, American College of Mohs Surgeons, The American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.

Dr. Lewis has a strong interest in Mohs skin cancer surgery, cutaneous oncology, including malignant melanoma.  Dr. Lewis also has an interest in a variety of cosmetic surgical procedures including cosmetic laser surgery, liposuction, botulinum toxin and soft tissue augmentation.
